How it works
From download to playing in three steps.
- Step 01:
Download Grapple
Drag it to Applications. Grapple fetches the engine and graphics layers it needs — no Windows install, no partitions, no reboots.
- Step 02:
Hook your store
Add Steam, GOG Galaxy or the Epic Games Launcher in one click. Grapple installs each one into its own isolated Windows environment and opens it at its sign-in screen, so you carry on with the account you already have.
- Step 03:
Press play
Install a game like you would on a PC, or drop any Windows installer onto Grapple. Each game has its own settings to tune.
What you get
All the fiddly bits, handled.
One-click launchers
Steam, GOG Galaxy and the Epic Games Launcher, each installed and set up for you — including the fix for Steam's black window — on the Free plan too. We've taken all three to their sign-in screen on a real Mac; what happens after you sign in to GOG or Epic, we haven't tested yet.
Per-game settings
Tune graphics, sync and CPU options for each game. Tested per-game fixes are on the roadmap, published on our compatibility pages as we verify them.
DirectX on Metal
DirectX 9 to 12 is translated to Metal, the graphics API your Mac speaks natively. DirectX 12 included: Grapple includes Apple's D3DMetal and fetches it during its one-time setup, so there is no toolkit to hunt down and no developer account to sign into.
Your library, grouped
Games sit together by where they came from — Steam, GOG and Epic — plus anything you add yourself. Each group runs in its own isolated Windows environment, so if one breaks the rest keep playing.
Engine managed for you
Grapple sets up its own Wine-based engine and its DirectX-to-Metal layers, D3DMetal included. It downloads them once when you first open it — about 250 MB — and handles the rest itself. No Homebrew, no Terminal, no toolkit to hunt down.
A CLI for tinkerers
Everything the app does is scriptable with the grapple command-line tool.
Straight talk
What runs, what doesn't.
Grapple is new, so we'd rather under-promise. We only call a game working after we've played it on a real Mac, and we publish each result on its compatibility page as we test. The Free plan runs one game forever, so you can watch the game you care about start up on your own Mac before you spend a cent.
Best place to start
- The Windows Steam client — it runs on Grapple's engine
- GOG Galaxy and the Epic Games Launcher — both install in one click and open at their sign-in screen
- DirectX 9 to 12 games: D3DMetal and DXMT render them, and we publish per-game results as we test
- Older and lighter games, which ask less of the GPU
- Launchers and Windows tools that are plain .exe files — and they never count as your free game
Hit and miss
- DirectX 12 games — supported, no toolkit for you to find, but the newest thing we translate, so results vary
- Brand-new releases in their first weeks
- Games with their own launchers or DRM
- Games bought on GOG or Epic — we set the launchers up, but haven't yet tested downloading and playing a game through them
- Heavy recent 3D games on base M-series chips — the GPU is the limit, so expect Low settings
Won't run
- Kernel-level anti-cheat — Valorant, Fortnite and many competitive shooters
- Games that require Windows-only drivers
- VR titles
Built for
Made for Mac gamers who just want to play.
The Steam backlog
You bought those games on a PC years ago. They're still yours — Grapple lets you play them on the Mac you actually use.
Indie & classic fans
Older and lighter games ask the least of your Mac's GPU, which makes them the best place to start. We publish results per game as we test them.
People with better things to do
If you've ever lost an evening to config files and forum threads, Grapple is the evening you get back.

FAQ
Questions, answered.
Something else? Check the system requirements, the support page or the open-source projects we build on.
Will my game run?
We don't promise that any particular game will. We test games one at a time on real Macs and publish each result — with the Mac it ran on — on our compatibility pages; a game is only marked as working after we've played it. Games with kernel-level anti-cheat (Valorant, Fortnite and many competitive shooters) won't run. DirectX 9 to 12 is supported, including DirectX 12 — Grapple fetches its engine and Apple's D3DMetal in a one-time setup download of about 250 MB, so you never hunt down a toolkit — but the newer the renderer, the more results vary. The Free plan runs one game forever, so you can prove Grapple runs your game before you pay.
How do I try Grapple before paying?
Use the Free plan. It runs one game, forever — enough to see the game you care about actually running on your own Mac. The game is claimed the first time you play it, and you can swap it for a different one once every 30 days. Pro is €3.99 a month or €39 a year in total — one subscription, your whole library — and you can cancel any time.
Do I need a Windows licence?
No. Grapple doesn't run Windows itself — it translates Windows programs so they run directly on macOS. You do need to own the games you play.
Which Macs are supported?
Macs with Apple Silicon (M1 or newer) running macOS 14 Sonoma or later, with Rosetta 2 installed. Intel Macs aren't supported. How well a game plays depends mostly on the GPU: base M-series chips suit older and lighter games, while heavier recent 3D games can max out their GPU — plan on Low settings there, or a Pro- or Max-class chip for more.
What's under the hood?
Grapple builds on excellent open-source projects. Its engine, grapple-wine, is Wine 11.0 built from the LGPL source code CodeWeavers publishes for CrossOver 26.3 (Grapple isn't affiliated with CodeWeavers), with DXMT for DirectX 10/11 on Metal and MoltenVK for Vulkan. It also includes Apple's D3DMetal, from the Game Porting Toolkit, for DirectX 9 to 12. See our open-source page for licences and source code.
Can I cancel any time?
Yes. Manage or cancel your subscription from your account page in two clicks. Pro stays active until the end of the period you've paid for.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Grapple checks your licence about once a week and keeps working for 14 days without a connection.
Your games are waiting.
